It would've been easy to notice had every religion not been telling us otherwise. It was so simple that we never even tried to believe it. But once I thought about it, it was impossible to ignore for me.

God is a researcher.

Now, if God is a researcher then the world must be an experiment. Since, a researcher keeps on experimenting unless (s)he gets the desired solution, this also means he himself is unaware of the right solution. And, in order to achieve the desired result, he will iterate through the usual procedure:

Set-up a test condition
Conduct a series of experiments
Note down the results
Clean-up

Now, perhaps every religion captured these steps rightly as Genesis, Evolution, Judgment day, andDoomsday. However, while they were been right about linking it to Karma (as that would be the behavioral observation for God), they were largely wrong about the destiny. The only destiny possible here is that of doom. Apart from that, even God would be unaware of what shall follow next, he is merely observing. In fact, predestining things would interfere with the experiment itself. So, basically it shall come down to Karma only. And, accordingly it should be obvious that while any misdeeds will have negative social implications, it may well be beneficial to the perpetrators while they are in the experiment.

In fact, this also explains reincarnation and life-death cycle. God is just experimenting to find out what set of initial conditions lead to an ideal conduct by all individuals, and how long can it be sustained. So, if your conduct does not add to variety then you will be pulled out of the next set of experiments (while God may still re-induct you to see whether what works right for others have any negative impact on you or not).

Now, this is not a one-time set-up. Every time the world settles down, the researcher (God) must shake it up a bit to break the inertia. It may be in form of natural disasters or otherwise. However, the assumption here is that while God is almighty, he in not all-knowing. And on the same lines asWatchmen, we may ask: who created the creator? So, we are not rejecting a possibility of having multiple levels of world. A higher level may exist, where God himself is a citizen, and which has been created by a meta-God (let's say).

I would welcome any questions, and more importantly scenarios which prove that the aforementioned is impossible.

A faint sound resembling her name made her jump. What was she doing? Oh yeah, she was thinking over what Pradeep had said. The mention of the same word startled her. But why? Wasn’t someone mentioning her name just moments ago? She followed the direction of noise. It led her to the recreation room. Wow, here was some kind of gathering, but what’s the occasion? And why is everyone looking at her like that? Those ridiculous smirks, those are unbearable.

And suddenly Rahul started humming, gazing at her. That continuous gaze was disturbing. And what is that he sings?

She left the room, couldn’t tolerate this stupidity any more. She was utterly disgruntled over Rahul’s impromptu song. What made him make a pass at her, that too with so many friends around? She was sure she never even looked twice at Rahul, what of giving him any cues. And what’s more? She faintly remembers someone recording it in a handy cam. So now, she will be laughing stock of the entire group. Oh, how would she fight all the rumours, everyone asking her – what’s going on between Rahul and her?

Things would’ve been way different had it been Pradeep. For one thing, he would’ve never attempted singing for her in front of everyone, with that croaky voice of his. And this Rahul, he thinks he is some kind of Rock star. People bear him just because he has a melodious voice; otherwise his sense of humour stinks. So, was it another prank of his? How dare that jerk involve her in such a stupid thing?

She had reached home after the practice. Breakfast was ready at the table – sprouts and apple. Again, that fu***ng apple. She won’t have apples anymore. And why should she need a protein diet? She is already in a good shape. And she won’t need any exercise for years to come. She looks perfect, that’s why Rahul made a pass at her. Ah, that stupid Rahul. She shouldn’t think of him anymore. She needs to relax. She will meditate.

Meditation is not helping either. She can’t clear this morning’s incidence off her head. Where was Pradeep? She was almost sure he was going to propose to her. But there he was, smiling at her standing by Rahul’s side, while that jerk was embarrassing her. Oh GOD! Help me. What should I do? At least give me a hint…

Door bell. It has a tendency to ring at the oddest of the moments. It was courier, a CD with her name on the cover. Oh, would this Rahul stop at nothing? Has he sent the recording to everyone, for no doubt the CD will have recording from the morning.

Yes, she was right. It showed the same setting, same room with same people. Only she was missing. Ok, so they were recording it even before she had come to the room. But wait, Pradeep is saying something. No, he is not saying something, he is actually proposing to her. And now, he is asking Rahul to sing a song on his behalf. And here, the focus changes, and she enters the room.

Oh, so she was worrying for no reason. It was Pradeep, not Rahul. She knew he was going to propose to her. Yup, exactly what she had expected. Pradeep is always predictable, however mysterious he tries to appear. Not like Rahul, who is spontaneous. Surely, this CD was Rahul’s idea. But, why is she thinking of Rahul? In fact, she has spent the entire morning thinking of him, while she should be thinking of Pradeep. Or should she be?

She sat there for minutes. Of course! Wasn’t it obvious? He can help. After all, he had always been a good friend. She walked down to her laptop, and wrote an e-mail:

Pradeep,

Your proposal was touchy and shocking. I had never expected this from you. You had always been a good friend of mine. And, I expect that my refusal won’t change the things between us.

It’s a long story. Now, I couldn’t go to my flat, and didn’t know where else to go to. So came over here.

Why only me? Even Bhavan… oh… ok. Anyways, I was watering your terrace garden, so I shall continue that then. BTW, I was kind of hungry, so had something from your refrigerator. I hope that’s ok.

I used to have a bully kind of a guy in my class during schools. He would torture me and my friends a lot. One day I got really pissed off and threw a ketchup bottle on him. Just a minor thing if you look at it now. And then after we left the city, I forgot all about him.

So, why are you remembering it now?

That’s because, today I met the same guy again in the local train. My parents were with me. Now, this guy has become some kind of a local don or something. I used to think even goons have a certain level of professionalism, but this one doesn’t have any. He recognized me even after so many years, and started thrashing me right in front of my parents. Then he snatched my wallet, and threw us all out at the next station.

That’s bad.

Yeah, but that’s only half of it. Some sensible passenger made a complaint to police. Now, he had gone away by the time police arrived on the scene. So, police started questioning me, as if I’m some goon myself. Though, I had a bit of luck too. They found the letter about Youth Ambassador in my pocket. I don’t know what they made of it, but all of a sudden they started showing some respect, and dropped us back to home in their station wagon.

What was that letter about?

Oh, it’s nothing. I’ve to represent India in New Zealand after four weeks. They have some kind of Young Entrepreneur Summit over there.

Well, that’s good. So, what are you doing over here then?

Well, the whole incidence made my parents totally worried. So, I rushed them back home. However, in all the hurry, the key to my flat was left with my mom. Now, I had the key to Deepi’s flat, so I came over.

Is that all, or there’s more to it?

What do you mean?

I guess you knew Deepi since earlier. In fact, you helped her get this flat.

Yeah, she is an old friend. We were colleagues in Delhi.

Just friends and colleagues… nothing more?

Don’t know yaar. I had some special feeling for her, and I guess she had too. But, neither had I told her nor had she told me. Then she had got married, and I came to Mumbai. We didn’t talk often thereafter, that is until Bhavan got transferred to Mumbai. Deepi called me up for helping her in arranging an accommodation. I knew about this flat, so got her put up over here. You know how difficult it is to find a flat in Mumbai, and she is an old friend after all.

But I have never seen them doing as much as even saying thanks to you for this favour.

That’s ok yaar. Actually, Bhavan is a bit conscious about me. I tend to forget that he is Deepi’s husband. I often indulge in talks with Deepi, unconsciously ignoring Bhavan’s presence altogether.

That means you still have feelings for her?

I’m not sure. But she is the first girl that I had been so close to.

First, that means there are more. Eh?

Righto. I don’t believe in ideologies like, you love only once. I have loved many girls, many a times. But yeah, Deepi was my first love.

Ok, Mr. Romeo. Now, how about coffee?

Good idea. Why don’t you being three mugs to Deepi’s flat? Oh sorry, make it four. I had again forgotten about Bhavan.

“Titli kay se banti hai?” asks Sonu. She is 5 years old daughter of Reshambai, our maid. In spite of our strong resistance, she brings her to work with her. “Sab to kaam karvate hain, ek tumhi ko bura lagta hai” she argues. Of course, Sonu working with her can help her finish the work quicker than she can working alone (simple maths); letting her work in more houses, resulting in more money (even simpler maths). However, if you think that Reshambai is among the exploited BPL (below poverty line, for the uninitiated) people, then perhaps you should know that her family is amongst the richest ones, back in her native village near Jhabua.

This makes me see a parallel between Reshambai and our colleagues working abroad. No offence intended here. Our dear friends, are working abroad long hours, doing the job that most locals wouldn’t do (that’s not quality work), but are still underpaid. They save every penny, hoping that some day they will return to India, and will become rich & famous in this so called backward & corrupt nation.

May the day come. Till then, “Titli ko bhi Bhagwaan banate hain, jaise Bhagwaan ne humein banaya hai. Isliye titliyon ko pareshaan nahin karna chahiye, kya pata marne ke baad humein bhi agle janam me Bhagwaan titli banaye” my mom tells Sonu. Sonu is content, learning in a school, away from school.
